The 3 cooperatives in Ibiza that you should know about

To talk about local produce in Ibiza is to talk about the countryside, the land and the people who work it every day. Behind many of the ingredients that we find on our tables there are cooperatives that sustain the primary sector and keep centuries-old traditions alive.

In this blog we want to bring you closer to three Ibizan cooperatives that play a fundamental role in the economy and gastronomic identity of the island.

Sant Antoni Agricultural Cooperative

Founded in 1951, the Sant Antoni Agricultural Cooperative was born with the aim of facilitating the purchase of raw materials such as seeds and fertilizers, and the sale of the productions of its members: cereals, almonds, carobs, horticultural products and pigs.

From the beginning, it was committed to investing in agricultural machinery to support work in the fields. Over the years, its machinery has evolved to incorporate modern equipment, even becoming an official John Deere distributor for the Pityusic Islands in 2002.

In 2009 it inaugurated a centre for the collection, storage and processing of livestock feed with silos and specialised machinery, which allows the integration of local cereal production into the animal feed industry. Today, it continues to be a pillar for farmers and ranchers in the area.

Santa Eulalia Agricultural Cooperative

Also with a long history since 1951, the Santa Eulalia Agricultural Cooperative is dedicated to the general supply of agriculture, offering fertilizers, feed, fodder, tools, irrigation systems, small agricultural machinery and horticultural plant.

In addition to providing a comprehensive service to the farmer, it promotes local products such as sausages, xeixa wheat flour, oils or wines, and has an agricultural diesel refueling station. Its commitment to the primary sector is complemented by a growing commitment to organic products: seedlings, cereals, organic feed, biodegradable plastic and certified fertilisers for organic farming.

More than a point of sale, it acts as an advisor and constant support for those who work the land, offering solutions adapted to the needs of the Ibizan countryside.

Carn & Coop Cooperative

Carn & Coop is the first Balearic livestock cooperative born in Ibiza with the aim of reactivating a sector that has been losing farms over the years.

It is currently made up of eight partner farmers and three collaborators, with the intention of getting more professionals from the sector to join the project.

Its commitment is focused on offering quality products from the source, with a sustainable and responsible approach, promoting the consumption of Km0 products. The products can be purchased through their website or in their store located in the Mercado Nuevo in Ibiza town.

The cooperative works under the extensive livestock farming model, taking advantage of the territory's resources with sustainability criteria and generating social and environmental benefits. Their commitment is not only economic, but also cultural: to keep Ibiza's livestock tradition alive.

The Ibizan countryside, more alive than ever

These three cooperatives are just a sample of the collective effort that keeps Ibiza's primary sector alive. Thanks to their work, local produce continues to play a leading role in our kitchens and in our economy.
